New UK Apache single, The longest living Asian MC and probably one of the best MCs ever for the drum n bass scene and a complete legend! He has a new web site - finally! Shall we go on? This time he has taken a fusion crossover edge with the beats, by having the middle eastern influences with classic jungle bass lines. The press release reads like a Public Enemy warning message about the state of violence in the UK today - new vocabulary for your street: 'Kidult hood', or 'Chidults' as they are called in Manchester, meaning kids growing up the wrong way and before there age. |

If
you ever heard K.S. Bhamra's Patel
Rap, or like AC and Terra's 'Lose
Some Weight' and Menis and Nazza Ts
'Shhh!' This is up your street. It is basically
a guy imitating an indian immigrant about his escapades in Britain. This
is hilarious at first listen, but seven tracks of this can get too much,
This probably only has a life of an EP, after that you are looking for
something new. Most the stories involve his cock ups with women and you
start looking for more different situations but it becomes all the some
ol', though some of the rapping is excellent, especially his description
of love on the track: Pick Up School.
Also bizarrely the music is great! it has that old skool hip hop feel
to it, with the new british sounds. There are also some interesting new
style of beats that could quite easily be grime tracks. Go to his My Space
site to hear two tracks... if you like it, we can point you in the direction
of the other five tracks. |

This going to be an interesting Album. We have not heard all of it but seems to very promising. It is 20 tracks of Hip Hop remixes, all above board - no bootlegs. Juttla seems to prove himself as an excellent hip hop producer, this album is not completely Asian Underground, but some of the tracks do have a heavy asian influence on them. With some of the biggest names in hip hop (Wu Tang, Biggie, 2 Pac) this is going to spiral Juttla's career automatically but it does deserve recognition for his ability as well. Samples of James Bond theme (Let Me Hear You Say) and Blondie (No Surrender) are used very well. The remixing of some of the hip hop tracks have been recognised by the Hip Hop community, also the Desi Hip Hop is sounding fresh (Some All Get The Picture) - get yourself a copy, its going to be a sure shot hit! Get on My Space to hear more, get on his web site or just hear it on Bobby and Nihal's Radio one show (Dangerous is played at the moment). |
| r-H | Black Asia Volume 1 |

Came across this guy on the My Space madness who kindly sent us three CDs! Listening to the Black Asia Volume 1(2004) album it has a different slant to the norm as he resides in Singapore and therefore this album has that tinge of oriental influence among the asian beats. Bollywood Lust is a daring track... it has a Sarangi that leads us through the track with female vocals who must surely be having an orgasm! The male vocals on this you will have heard of before and have been told by r-H that they have been used on BBC Asian Network radio. Liquid is the oriental flavour I was on about, with the Loop Guru style animal soundscapes and tubular bells that give it that east asia edge this is a nice drum n bass effect-vocals by birds and frogs! Lemon Grass fuses the east Asian Vocals with a mellow Bhangra style beat again working to great affect. Tim Sum Vindaloo is another example of the South and East Asia, mixing the Shamisan, Indian and Oriental Classical Vocals with the Bansuri-sounds like a confused melting pot but it sounds great over the top of breakbeats and house tempos. If you are looking for something slightly different on the Asian Underground definitely visit Mr. r-H! With many different rhythms and styles from Dub, Jazz, Hip Hop and Drum n bass fusing South and East Asia, I am begriming to think is this a underrated album? |
| Indian Ropeman | Hindu Press Up |

This has been played on Radio one for months, has been bootlegged by Lo Fidelity All Stars with Pharrel and Gwen Stefanis vocals and now you can download it from My Space. This an excellent return by the ex Skint Asian Break Beat Maestro. With his Bollywood mash up, efx to the max and Indian Ropeman darkness all over it, topped with Hip Hop badness, this is a sure shot for your music players. Check out his back catalogue at our micro site here. The new album should be a killer... more information to follow soon. |

Calls his style of music: Roger Troutman (California Love-Dre and 2Pac fame) meets NWA! Following up his success from Blowin Up The Spot, BBB is releasing Indofunk. Influenced by Indian Ropemans Hindu Press up sound effects and sampling style, this is another hip hop flavoured Bollywood sampled break beat frenzy and does it as well as Mr Ropeman. The looping samples of 'To the people over... there/here/everywhere...' makes sure this is another dance floor killer. Watch out from this boy, who likes to stay facially anonymous, go to his site to listen to three tracks (including Blowin Up The Spot), 'shake your ass and get down with the brown' and wait for the badness of Indofunk to hit the airwaves soon... |

AKA as Gandah Bacha (Dirty Kid) samples a Bollywood track (listed in our sampler page). The track has the distinctive voice of this rapper which is like someone verging on going crazy. The Bollywood sample used here is done in context to the lyrics which is always a plus! and the track has an XCLNT flow to it - download it from the My Space site. On his My Space he has a Freestyle with Punjabi Hit Squad over the Pass that Dutch instrumental, there is a good set of lyrics to this showing that he can actually rap and make sense rather than just ranting away, though it is not Desi flavoured at all. Nor are the other two tracks on the My Space site. Maybe Tere Bina was a one off for the desi hip hop scene. |
| Sonic Devis | Sticky Bird Dub/Bhopali/Aaj Rang Hai |
|

The first track has similar soundscapes like Loop Guru would use, this is something Pathaan would be interested and fans of Stoned Asia. The 2nd track is another dubbed out track with tabla, Bansuri, Santoor and reversed effects. It has a live performance sample of legendary Santoor player Shivkumar Sharma, though dubbed out it is very catchy and upbeat. Then there's the NFAK track, a remix of Aaj Rang Hai, first played in january 2004 on the Bobby and Nihal show. This has been remixed in the most brilliant way, keeping hold of the traditional Qawwali clap which is lost in most remixes this drum n bass track moves nicely with its warping bass lines, not overshadowing the emotion of the track. These can all be heard on My Space and you can download an edited version of the Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan track! |
| Fsuing Naked Beats | Outer Persepective |
![]() |
Former Charged member, Fusing Naked Beats, release there third long player this month. This has similar laid back-2-step beats as the Second album Digital Asia. The album features among many Najma Akhtar and Swami Baracus. The track Ultrasonic sounds a bit like a 90s Hacienda track with its detroit style house beats, Saldins Empire is a sarangi driven 2 step affair with MC Vocals. DaryaiNur is reminiscent of the tracks from the first album 'Digital Asia' and 'Threads of Identity' and gives a real sense of the FNB trade mark style. Check out the MySpace to hear 3 tracks off the album. To hear more you can buy the album from the website... |
